Psychotherapy vs. Coaching

Wit & Reason offers both psychotherapy and coaching services in order to meet our client’s personal development and needs.

Our coaching services are solution-focused and skill-based. Meaning, our coaching clients have specific goals in mind that they would like to accomplish and within their coaching meetings they gain education, opportunities to master required skills, guidance, and social accountability. Our clients’ coaching meetings and goals are focused on specific aspects of their life and identified by the type of coaching they are receiving. For example, a person or couple receiving our Dating & Relationship Coaching would be focusing on the dating and romantic aspects of their life. Whereas, a person receiving Executive Coaching would be focusing on skills related to building workplace leadership skills during their coaching meetings.

Feel free to review our Telehealth Coaching page to learn more about our different types of coaching services, common coaching goals per service, and pricing.

Psychotherapy differs from coaching. Psychotherapy is provided for clients who are working through mental health conditions that are impairing their ability to function in various aspects of their life. For example, psychotherapy is recommended for clients who experience anxiety or depressive symptoms that make it difficult for them to meet work demands, maintain healthy relationships, and engage in activities they use to enjoy. In this case, a person’s presenting problems overlap multiple areas of their life and require more in depth exploration and supportive treatment.

Clients Who Learn & Implement

Through coaching, I have learned invaluable practices from both the mindfulness and cognitive therapy practices. I came to coaching wanting to improve my self-confidence, stress management, and ability to set positive boundaries in my life. After assessing my goals, Dr. Alexis wrote out a game plan and held me to reaching my goals. Her coaching has helped me better manage my stress, tune deeper into myself, incorporate mindfulness into my everyday life, and confidently navigate high-pressure social and work events. I can’t thank Wit & Reason enough for the freedom I have found from racing thoughts and anxiety. I am so thankful for Dr. Alexis and I highly recommend working with her to achieve your goals.
